Speaking of tentacles
Dec. 31st, 2007 05:15 pmCause aren't we always?
Nikery tried to distract me today by discussing merman ^_~ and I wondered how they would differ from ocean to ocean and that reminded me I wanted to write a story for
tailtales involving a merman and a more ursula-type merman. squidman. whatever.
Except I really don't feel like building merpeople societies quite yet. Still, it's popping up more and more frequently in my head, which means it'll probably start yammering and banging up there before much longer.
Get enough slush in me and who knows, maybe I'll get fed up with knight-speak (because oh let me tell you what a pain in the ass that tone can be to keep correct) and switch naughty sea creatures.
*EDIT*
Still waiting for slush to reach a good-enough consistency. In the meantime, playing with my eternal favorite - amaretto. Odd choice for me to favor, because it's so sweet, but I am fond.
I know a lot of people don't drink b/c they don't like the taste of alcohol. If that is you, I recommend this:
Amaretto
Ginger Ale
Cranberry juice.
Uh, don't ask me measurements. I use a rocks glass, maybe a quarter of that amaretto, a healthy splash of cranberry and the rest ginger ale ^^;; Measuring is for wusses.

Date: 2007-12-31 10:38 pm (UTC)See, that's what I was pondering. Maybe the squid types are a smaller clan? We could go for full angst and call them outcast, or half angst and they're just a small clan that keeps to itself.
Well, as Nikery suggested, mermen in the really cold waters would have thicker scales, and more of them. Tropical-type water merpeople would have brighter colors, fewer scales. There's also the question of communication -- nix vocals altogether and stick with telepathy (easy out for writers) or alter them enough they communicate more like other sea creatures, with tones and calls and whatall. And there's alwys the question of why such a form would exist at all, since I can't think being part human woudl be terribly useful in the depths.
Society wise -- jobs? Government type? Are we little mermaid roar king triton, or more scottish maybe with clans and stuff?
See, this is why I suck at being a normal human being ^^ They were totally giggling at me today cause I talked about spider man for a fair bit, then squeed over batman, then started sketching shields and stuff that Kodey might use in tourney >.> Total failure at normal, me ^__^

Date: 2007-12-31 11:29 pm (UTC)Heh. Wow, optios. I think I'd stick with just sea-type in this case, no idea what freshwater would entail ^^;
I like the glowing idea, and blubber -- good point. Also awesome points for the squid people. See, this is why I avoid ocean. The details, they overwhelm me.

Date: 2007-12-31 11:24 pm (UTC)Heh, I'm sure once it has time to percolate you'll totally kick the merpeople idea's ass. ::indiscretely shoves the entire idea of writing merpeople at you::
Hum, I might try that. I think J's got all those ingredients at her parent's place, so perhaps if I remember next time I'll mention it to her. Though it'd probably end up mostly ginger ale with a hint of cranberry juice for me. ^___^;; I am suck a slacker when it comes to alcomohol.
