I liked the first Adrien English book well enough. But I don't like the on again/off again thing he's got with the gay cop - though, despite myself, I do like the gay cop. But, the series doesn't seem certain enough of an HEA for me to pick up the others in the series. I want them to wind up together, and I have no faith in that. I've had little faith in such things since stupid Julia Talbot burned me with her fucking Jumping series.

So, I would happily trade to obtain them, but I don't think I'd ever buy them.

But on the topics of ebooks I do like, I was surprised to find I really liked this one. It's the sort of book I picked up expecting nothing more than cheap amusement and a way to roll my eyes. But I liked it. It did well what it set out to do, I thought, and didn't try to do anything else. It took a premise that has a high rate of failure and didn't suck it up. I can dig that.

I've heard people raving about the Adrien English books, so I've been thinking about getting them, but... hmm. I've heard that this is really good though. ^__^

Yes. It really IS that good. Some awkward parts and a small bit of cliche, but enough parody of many other cliches and overall humor that I did not regret my purchase at all.

One word of warning: it's short. As in only a 120 or so pages short. I finished it in one sitting anyways. Or else, it was so good, the pages just flew by. XD

I figured, especially since there's a few Adrien English books. ^___^ But that's really got me wanting to get Dark Lord, now. Hmm, will definitely put it on the list for "things to buy".

I have a feeling I'm going to have liked it a lot, too. I'm only half way through, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I've been cautiously hopeful that it will keep on being good. Now I'm even more hopeful.^^

I have not read any Adrien English books, but I totally agree with you about the HEA. Especially when the HEA was already implied in one book, and then gets reneged in the next. (Weirdly, I was just having this conversation the other day, when rec-ing the fanfiction exception to this rule. Rule goes out the window when the new couple is your OTP.^^)

*snugs* I hope you win at life today!

I've read them all. Funnily enough, I like the type of relationship he has with Jake, its different from the normal way these things usually happen. Um, do you like spoilers? Lets just say that Jake resolves a lot of his issues in the last book that came out, and there is a good deal of hope. I think they are worth it.

I've read them too! I didn't stop until I've finished all of the 4 books..sleep be damned! I also like their relationship, it seemed more believable somehow since Jake has Issues..I came to like him, love him to utter HATE him especially the last book.. Their "love" just made my heart ache. It is WORTH IT!

I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I recently finished the fourth book, and nearly cried, I was that happy with Lanyon.

I've read all of Josh Lanyon's Adrien English series and have complete faith that he will do the right thing. I do recommend all his work.

Ok, terribly delayed reply to your post by one month, but I couldn't resist. This is kinda spoiler-filled so...

I love the Adrien English series. Yes, the ambivalent relationship, which if you've only read the first book, only starts at the end of the volume does continue for...all 4 volumes? can irritate some people, but it is a refreshing change from the usual gay romance fare that you get.

They hook up in vol 1, their relationship gets stronger in vol 2, the cop's "in the closet" attitude causes huge problems in vol 3 and they break up, then they get back together-ish at the end of vol 4, and now I can't wait for vol 5 to see what happens. So yeah, the ambivalence/UST makes you wanna read it. Plus, we see the cop who is in the closet and having problems trying to come to terms with the depth of feeling he has for the main chara. And that's also something different.

One thing I don't really like is that the cop is having relations with people other than the main chara at the same time, yet they have unprotected sex. Sorry, but the logical part of me keeps screaming "AIDS!! HIV!!" at random times, like when they're doing it...Kinda detracts a little from the reading experience. *sighs*

But other than that, writing wise, plot wise, character definition wise, smut scene wise, all double thumbs-up from me. Highly recommended reading.
