I just found something more fun than the flowers for Embrace. I wish I could use all this info. Man, I really want to write a story about doctors in the victorian period. I knew finally looking this stuff up would be interesting, I didn't know I'd have this much fun. Shit is whack, but it's *loads* of fun. But damn, poor people. 'Era of Quacks' is the best descrip.

This is the site I've been reading. It's really cool. Uh. Okay it's cool if, like me, your bookmarks include the official sites for Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden >_>
maderr: (Kurogane)
I'm so glad I broke down and bought my coat. It was a splurge, but it's a good one. Now the bitch just needs to get here.

This woman on the bus had her music up so load I could not only hear it, I could understand the lyrics and damn near sing a long. *shakes head*

Dear Embracers,

Stop scaring the author.

Hiding in the corner,
Amaretto ^_~

Ugh. It's not that I hate my job. I don't. But I would much rather be writing and cleaning house. Does that make sense?

Need to start searching for a new pic for my LJ layout. I love my Saiyuki image muchly, but it's almost time to switch to a winter theme.

EEEE! Lincoln from Prison Break is on Q102! And Whee! It's back on tonight!! *gleeeee*
maderr: (Fai - Genius)
Or I will be once I make the corrections suggested by my betas.

Erm. Was going to do them at lunch. But now it looks as though I may not even get near my work comp after this. Oh, well. Expect at least one story tonight. Of the other two for which I've completed parts, one you won't see until it's *done* (and I am bloody fucking hell going to finish it by Friday if not sooner) and I think maybe I should wait until the second half is finished with the other story, lest I find myself being threatened. I'll let the betas decide.

And now to work. Alas, it looks like I shall not have the freedom this week for which I was hoping >_< Damn.
maderr: (Flowers)
Until I get some writing done. Must. Write. SMP. story. Sheesh I've never been this bad about it. Don't even have anything typed...but I'll have something to mail out Monday if I have to forego sleep. There is no excuse for this kind of slacking.

Also working on something I shouldn't be working on. And I'm not telling or posting until it's done, because I tend to slack off after posting well-recieved snippets. Mwahahahaha.

Quick book rec:

Geisha, A Life by Mineko Iwasaki. I liked Memoirs of a Geisha, I like this one more (even though a lot of the publishers seem to think A Life is stiff and mechanical). She has a pretty way of writing (at least in English; I don't know if it's a translation or whatnot); it's very Japanese (obviously), I think that's what throws the white folk off. Anyway, cool book.

Okay, enough rambling. I am hereby exiled from the internet until I accomplish something.
maderr: (Yippy!)
I HAVE ANANSI BOYS!

But I also have writing to do. So it will be my treat later ^_^

Saw Corpse Bride last nigh! Not as good as Nightmare, but I am a biased fangirl. Gomi my sweet, I dont' know that you'll like the song/dance numbers so much. But then again, who knows? I'm often wrong about you and movies. But I liked it very very much. It was fun and cute and sweet.

While at the bookstore, also bought to writing books. Writer's Market for short stories and novels (and I've already found three mags that accept "sword and sorcery, science fiction, feminist, gay, etc" so w00t! ^_^ Also bought Elements of Style, which is something of a bible in the writing world? Though skimming through I've already picked up a few of the lessons he goes on about - mostly because they're drilled into me here. Anyone who thinks the 'net method of writing/posting isn't worth anything clearly doesn't know much about it. Heh. At least on my flist, no punches are ever pulled *loves*

Mmm, coffee. Walked to UDF this morning for cofffee. It is cloudy and cool, but pleasantly so. A verra nice day indeed.

And now I write. *ignores Anansi calling her name*

Nick is such the angsty bunny bitch of the show. I want to pet him and hook him up with Warrick because the whole marriage thing is REALLY FUCKING LAME. Poor Kat, those two always did have pretty tension (<--pretend that makes sense).

Work has gone to shit.I hate the upper echelons of business )

In other news, am rereading The Blue Sword. I don't even remember anymore which of the two is my fav. It's so rare to find books where the chicks are so fracking cool and the romance is cool without turning her into some simpering little homemaker puddle. I'm all about the tough chicks (gee, who would have guessed?). Nausicaa, Harry and Aerin are so entirely my girl crushes.

Christ, go to bed Megan.
maderr: (Fai D. Flowright)
Dear Stephen King,

I love you. As much as parts of it freak me out and make me fret, On Writing also makes me feel much better. Thanks for the help.

Most Sincerely,
Megan Derr

P.S. Still love Neil Gaimen more.

fret fret fret )

Wrote four pages of Sworn Duty. They're CRAP. Wrote some of Flower Boys. UTTER CRAP. And there are problems I didn't see before with Rose/Fox and Doug's story that I didn't see before.

>_<

Whatever. I'll figure them out.

In the meantime, love that Shoujo Beat is translating God Child. One of my favorite series ever (which is weird, because it's hardcore kaori yuki angst at it's best) and next chapter Jezebel finally appears. I don't care how fucked up or evil or pyscho that man is, he's dead sexy and so heartbreakingly tragic. And Cassion ;_; They need to hurry the fuck up and get to books 5-8. Dr. Jezebel is mad omfguh in Megan-land, yes indeed (this icon really doesn't do him justice. I'd scan the manga I've got if anyone but me cared. So pretty *_*)

Yes, I'm done now.
maderr: (Fai D. Flowright)
So far I've squeed over Meg's story, redid my icons a bit and am now going to make sure my load of laundry is dry so I can shower and dress (on the downside, it's cold out today. on the upside, that means I get to wear one of my new sweaters).

I like the new icons, though at least half are old ones that I can't bear to part with. I deliberated over story icons, but finally settled on the ones I want most to work on. So if it has an icon, it will someday be complete. Except Treasure, which I simply like having up. Also, this unhealthy obession with Fai needs to either stop or be fed new manga/info/pretty pictures.

Sammikins, will work on your screencaps after I get clean and do some writing to make this day not a complete wash before I go to the BBQ.

Lata' peeps.
maderr: (Reading)
Ack. Way way behind on LJ. If there's a post you need/want me to see, drop me a link b/c I've got so many to catch up on it's a good bet I'll miss something.

So. Eyes were examined to today. My prescription of course changed, but otherwise my eyes are in perfect health! And my new glasses only cost $170.00 with EyeMed (they would have cost almost $500.00 w/out). They're reall cool! Small, and this weird geometric shape. Not something I would have thought to try myself, so I'm glad we had someone helping us. Plus! I was able to get the Flextint lenses I wanted, so they'll change according to the light. I'm mad excited - they'll be ready in two weeks, maybe I'll post pictures (becauase glasses are so exciting >_>;;).

Bought four books last night. I bought the manga version of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Caved and bought a book that caught my eye a while ago, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. It's about two Chinese women in the days of foot binding who become friends and stuff via...I think it's called "nu shu" but basically "women's writing." Sounds vaguely femslashy, I'll be interested to see to what degree that element is present. Also *finally* got Stephen King's On Writing, and will probably read it when I have a large chunk of time as King, no matter what he writes, is of the "do nothing else until this book is finished" variety. Lasty, picked up a Foxtrot book (and Sarah got another one) for to continue the marking of comics for my manifesto (in fact, I think I'll go back to marking them as my head has been killing me all day and that will be relaxing).

Now the real question of the day: All the money I've spent so far, do I have enough to preorder Anansi Boys and get the how to write/get published book I want? We'll see after Jungle Jim's, I guess.
maderr: (Meow)
Left the house early to go to UDF and treat myself to coffee and breakfast. Left a little too early as Megan often does. Had fifteen minutes to kill at the bus stop so pulled out my headphones and enjoyed my coffee with amaretto creamer (yummy!).

Barely had I put the headphones on when Car With Creepy Man pulls up and he asks, barely keeping a leer from his face, "Can I give you a ride somewhere?"

I smile politely and tell him no thanks, and he drives off. Meanwhile I'm thinking "Isn't a little too goddamn early for this crap?" (It's about 6:40 at this point, just an fyi).

Totally didn't know that the new hooker look was blue jeans, black long-tee, headphones and a cup of coffee. I guess they like that "working girl" double entendre.

The Peanut Gallery is permitted one comment each.

Then this girl on the bus woudln't stop *staring* at me. Really weird. And I like my usual bus better (I caught an earlier one this morning).

Was woken up at 3:00 am by cats and got to listen to the thunderstorm that was rolling through. 'Twas fun, even if I'm going to be a very sleepy Megan later.

As a parting note, I'm finally getting these paralegals trained. Second day this week I've found a note saying so and so took a file. This one even apologizes for not having the file # to give me. Hehehehe. *cracks that whip*

Now I am off to jam to greenday (~I wanna be a minority! I don't need your authority! Down with the moral majority, 'cause I wanna be a minority!~) and shelve files.

^_^ Happy Friday!
maderr: (Genius)
In unrelated news, I remeber a while back I had a list (don't know if I posted it here, someone did though...) of things or pranks or something to do in the office. The only one I remember is the stunt about replacing all the coffee with decaf for a few weeks, then switching back to regular and watching the office spaz. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Does anyone have it? I wanted to put it on my sad, barren little wall here.

Yes, okay. Off the computer, put files away. I'm going.

Happy Friday! ^_^
maderr: (Ansuz)
^_^ I got to talk to my [livejournal.com profile] amasugiru. Now I need to call my beloved brother, my Queen and my Tenshi.

Speaking of Queen, I'm sorry it's taking me so long to write your fic -_-;; I really had planned to have it sooner. I shall def write it this weekend. Don't get arrested for Rage Against Professors in the meantime, 'kay?

That fairytale I'm rewriting? O_o Just went uberfuckingnuts on my last night. It's not a rewrite, it's damn a new fucking story. WTF, Mate? So those are my defs for the weekend - Queen's fic, and the two fairytales. If I manage it, will also get to DwtD and Midsummer. Ideally I would like those *done* by Sept end, and I can finish even more if I crack down. You people don't let me slack, hear? Lay the smackdown hardcore.

Half hour left, going to go write ^_^

Tenshi, do not think I have your cel #. GIVE IT TO ME BITCH. Also, tell Allison I knew she wouldn't go through with making me wear pink and frilly to her wedding. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Give Keith my condolences on the loss of his freedom. Mischief Managed!
maderr: (Plots)
*Sorted one more letter at work (alphabetizing those files is a bitch)
*Finally figured out the one thing in Prisoner that was vexing me
*Speaking of Prisoner, stage one of the outline is done. Now on to stage two, in which I actually have to put real effort into it. We'll see if Megan's patience makes it to stage three.
*Hit upon a few ideas for drabbles and smaller fics I've wanted to do. As well as a rewrite for one of my fairytales, though it wasn't on my list of rewrites...
*Am muchly enjoying Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, Book One) the second 'round, which isn't always the case with some books. I read it awhile ago but never got the other two. Finally have the other two. Almost at the point where the male lover interst enters (he's sort of a side thing to The Chick of course but totally there. "I notice everything about you" hehehe). I have (I'm going to catch flack for this) a weakness for the cheezy, pretty samurai-type stories. This trilogy takes place in notjapan and is very very good for its genre. Anything that wins my interest despite being written in 1st person gets mad props. /rambling
*Finally finished editing my SMP story. I hope hope hope the recipient likes it >_< I'm going to be a nervous wreck until she gets it.

Book and bed now.
maderr: (Anomoly)
First off: Went to get phone this morning to see if my Dad had called and I'd somehow missed him, though I'd barely been out of my office all day. Realiezd didn't have phone. Figured I'd left it at home. Got a call much much later from my IAM telling me my dad had called him b/c some guy had called my dad to tell him I'd lost my cell O_o It was somewhere on Arrow, the street on which I live. Have no idea how it happened, as the pocket in which I put it is pretty deep and I didn't mess with my purse this morning in a way that would have knocked it out. Didn't touch my purse at all except I was carrying it. Phone successfully recovered and its rescuer had a verra nice voice.

More weirdness: Did fuck nothing at work all day. Except write. Wrote for about two hours, all told. Very very bizarre.

Further weirdness. I use my msn account for my mail and stuff. My old comp didn't have Outlook and I never thought to use it on my new one b/c I'm so used to msn. Got home today to see that Outlook had been activated and was just waiting for me to input a couple of things. So now I have Outlook. Not sure I like it.

Am sorely tempted to order pizza, as do not feel like looking and I doubt the roomie is after her week so far and our kitchen is, as ever, a fucking mess.

Hmmm, my song reminds me of something. Does anyone have the songs for the Tsubasa anime? I'm looking mostly for the creepy-esque musical piece that comes up every time the series goes all "There Is Something Deep and Mysterious And Very Naughty Going On" (yeah, that made sense >_<)

Okay, I have a story to fight with. Pardon me.
maderr: (Reading)
Dear Real Life,

Stop interfering in my writing.

No love,
Exhausted Megan

But jeez am I yanking in the overtime. I wish said overtime didn't require leaving the house at 6:00 am but I'll get over it. Life could definitely be worse and tomorrow should be cool because I'll have a bitch slave minion (with a french accent, to beat all) to help me organize things.

*yawn*

Meager accomplishments for the evening: Wrote a few pages of Midsummer's Moon. If work doesn't kick my ass, I'm bound and determined to finish at least the second part by week's end.

Also spent lunch writing out the next two stories in Dance with the Devil.

And all should be proud that I did not cave to temptation and just write Prisoner all week.

I profusely apologize for failing miserably to finish Paradise, as well as not completing all the stories I still owe various and sundry of my beloved comrades. I wil get to them eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I also wrote my Sensory story over the weekend, but I'm afraid it's fluffy, drively CRAP and not the cool story I wanted so we'll see how long I keep it >_<

All right, I'm out peeps.

*note to self* If you finish Midsummer, you may preorder the Lord's forthcoming Holy Scripture. But only if you finish Midsummer.

So

Expecting the worst, planning for the worst...does in fact sometimes mean that it comes out 'the best'

As in, I expected the bus to take much longer, from what I remembered and while I'm going to hate all the walking come winter it's not *too* horrible. So this means I can wake up at 5,5:30* rather than 4. And I should get home about 5:45-ish, assuming of course I can leave right at five.

So that improves things slightly. And I have my new cd player, with Aerosmith, Lifehouse, Ra and Rob Thomas to keep me company. Sarah, don't forget to grab your other cds - I think I put them on your desk but you probaby haven't noticed yet XD

All right, need to brew some coffee and then get some work done before the masses get here.

No more slacking. Almost done with the webpage, so in a bit all submitters can check the challenge page and double check I got everything right? I always manage to mess up *something*

Then on to sketch out the stories I need to finish like, yesterday. ARGH FAIRYTALE COOPERATE.

Done now. Love this song. Love this group.

Roommate is going to make frenchtoast when she wakes up (she just doesn't know it yet)

*edit*

So totally misremembered the title of my Sensory story...and now what I had totally doesn't work. *tears hear out*

Ah, well. I had two spins for that story, and I can use the second version for the latest SMP assignment sent me.

To Do

maderr: (Double Dash)
*clean house
*get dreamweaver, upload challenge stories
*[livejournal.com profile] rautenkranzmt's songs
*chris' story
*sky dark's story
*Smp story
*Challenge story
*Sensory overload story

On the upside, get to slack for a few hours because [livejournal.com profile] hayama_sbwill be helping us incompetent blondes set up our house network and [livejournal.com profile] raielchan is bringing overSaw. So not only do I get to watch a 'scary' movie, Sarah will periodically stop to watch it, silly girl, and I get to listen to her terrified shrieks.

Ugh this house needs cleaned.

Unrelated note, I love this icon. One of my favorite Penny Arcade strips.
